Support for Students

Your Tutor

Every student is a member of a tutor group and s/he is the first point of contact. All students have a compulsory tutor group session every week.

Your Teachers

At Academus we have a team of talented and experienced teachers who are specialists in their subjects and who will support each student. Our teachers identify students’ strengths and weaknesses in order to build their pathway to success. They pride themselves in identifying the individual’s needs whatever the requirement, be it the gifted and talented, or those hard to reach, and they help each student to progress at a pace that is best for them. Academus believes that creating a learning environment that is friendly, collaborative yet challenging, is central to engaging students that wish to develop into self-confident, self-assured individuals, ready to unlock their own potential.

Computer for Learning

Learning at Academus takes place online utilising both live and archived sources. Therefore, you will need a computer and broadband Internet access. If you don’t have a computer and need one, talk to us and we may be able to offer a solution.

Careers and higher education advice

Academus students have access to our specialist careers advisors who provide support and guidance to help them make informed decisions about their futures.

Financial Help

If you are over 16 years old, worried about money and want to stay in education you may be eligible for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). EMA offers weekly payments (up to £30.00 per week) which are there to help you continue your studies.

Learning Agreement and Code of Conduct

There aren’t many rules that Academus asks you to follow. Following our code of conduct and having online etiquette is essential if you are to succeed. It is very simple and will be explained at the time of enrolment where you will be required to sign an 'Individual Learning Plan'.

Academus Aims

Academus is committed to the educational success and general welfare of its students. Our purpose is to achieve and maintain a high quality educational provision and in so doing, seek to ensure that the commitments made to you, as a student of Academus, are met.

Academus Objectives

Academus seeks to promote inclusivity by introducing a sustainable range of subject choices in order to meet the needs of each individual on the road to success.

Learner Involvement

At Academus, we encourage each learner to become an independent as well as interdependent learner; this means that we encourage our students to take a proactive role in their learning by tailoring our provision to promote student ownership. Academus promotes students taking responsibility for their learning by attending all online lessons as well as making use of our support systems by seeking help in order to fulfil their aspirations. We also encourage students to be involved in the design, delivery and review of our courses and support services. Your views are important in helping us improve the quality of everything we do.

Your involvement can include active participation in:

  • Course reviews and learner satisfaction surveys
  • Course or tutor group representation
  • Students who participate in any of these activities will receive training and support and will be awarded an Academus certificate to honour their dedication to their learning.
