Science forms the basis of enquiry into our world and our life. Academus curricula offers the young mind the creativity required to be an inquisitive mind. We offer the following from the National Curriculum:
An opportunity to:
- research, experiment, discuss and develop arguments
- pursue an independent enquiry into an aspect of science of personal interest
- use real-life examples as a basis for finding out about science
- study science in local, national and global contexts, and appreciate the connections between these
- experience science outside the school environment, including in the workplace, where possible
- use creativity and innovation in science, and appreciate their importance in enterprise
- recognise the importance of sustainability in scientific and technological developments
- explore contemporary and historical scientific developments and how they have been communicated
We develop and aim to fulfil the following requirements of the QCDA curriculum guideline.
Independent enquiry generated through: Primary and secondary sources from experimental work or desk-based research.
Creativity and innovation generated through: Scientific experimentation presented to generate new ideas leading to leading to novel discoveries and applications.
Sustainability explained through: Studying the cycle of economic, social and environmental aspects of human society, the non-human environment. We look at sustainable development for our generation and the impact of non sustainability on future generations to meet their needs. Issues leading to resources, including their availability, finiteness, the need to reduce waste, recycling, pollution and energy conservation are studied.
Contemporary and historical aspects are looked by: Study of global and cultural diversity in science as well as looking at scientific contributions made by men
and women.
Science communication: This part looks at the misrepresentation and misuse of science through the media and by scientists themselves.
