How The British Education Works

The British secondary school system starts at the age of 11 and continues to the age of 18 when students are ready to join Further or Higher Education.

1. From 11 to 14, the students follow a Key Stage 3 curriculum.
2. Students then move onto a GCSE/IGCSE or BTEC programme which spans over two years; this is called Key Stage 4. Most students choose up to nine GCSEs subjects for GCSE/IGCSE. BTEC courses on the other hand are vocational in nature.
3. Key Stage 5 courses follow an A’ Level or BTEC pathway over a two year span; during the second year, students apply for university.
